Bagel is a Bulldog who was born on April 11, 2006 in Silt, Colorado. His formative years were spent in the Portland, Maine region surrounded by forests, lakes, mountains, rivers, and beaches where he learned to hike, run, jump, and swim — all while and loving anyone who would give him attention. The long and cold Maine winters proved to be a perfect climate for Bagel who typically exerts more energy when there is snow on the ground. Like most Bulldogs his age, he slows down in the warmer months and prefers a couch and air conditioning over heat and humidity.
Bagel moved to Longmont, Colorado with his dad in early 2013. The change in altitude, easy access to the Rocky Mountains, and overall dryness of the area agree with the beast. The sun on the plains can be brutal, even in the spring, but this time the humidity is nonexistent. Every night is a cool one and they make twilight walks on Flagstaff Mountain or around the Boulder Reservoir some of Bagel’s favorite activities.
In typical Bulldog fashion, Bagel loves when people notice him. If you don’t, he’ll be sure to let you know he’s there: perhaps with a nibble on your shoes, a jump on your legs, or barking until you scratch his ears or rear end. He loves to sleep and stretch out — on the couch, under the desk, over the carpet, or in bed. Bagel has the astonishing ability to claw his way underneath the covers to tuck himself in at night. When outside on the grass, Bagel will stretch out on his back, feet up and body wiggling side to side. If there’s a slope, these wiggle movements will force his body downward. This is called “lawn luge.”
Bagel follows a mostly vegan diet of his typical Solid Gold organic dry food complimented by raw spinach, kale, and coconut oil. To prevent rapid eating, Bagel uses a special dish containing four sections to separate the food, which slows him down. His favorite snacks include celery, carrots, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, apples, and bananas. Bagel is in perfect health and has exquisite dental hygiene for a dog his age; this is in large part owed to the vast amounts of chewing on toys he does in his spare time. The most effective ones are made by Nylabone and West Paw Design.
